Made from forged stainless steel, the Dee-pin Safety Shackle is a cost-effective solution for safely building secure chain sets. In fact, they are more affordable than maillons of equivalent strength, and they offer a larger opening as well.

Dee-pin shackles feature a shouldered bolt and security cotter pin. This added safety and security feature makes them much stronger than standard (unrated) shackles with weaker threaded pins.

How to Use The Dee Pin Safety Shackle

1. Remove the pin, undo the nut and bolt.
2. Link your chain or ring into the shackle then reassemble.
3. Tighten the nut against the shoulder using two, same sized spanners
4. Fit the pin.
5. Bend the pin back on both sides. This will allow the bolt to rotate while retaining the end nut securely in place during use.

The independent rotation of the bolt allows rappel rings to be connected via a shackle to chain or anchors. Unlike unrated, thread pin shackles, safety shackles are secured by a bolt that is free to rotate under load. A normal shackle in this situation would unscrew itself and fail (perhaps with fatal consequences) if thread with a loaded climbing rope.
